Watermelon — Latin Typography Study

Overview

"Watermelon is a large, sweet summer fruit with a hard green rind and juicy, typically red or pink flesh filled with black seeds." That single sentence became the design brief for a full Latin alphabet, A through Z, built entirely from the fruit's shape, rind pattern and seeds.

Design concept

Each letterform keeps the rounded rind silhouette and the same recurring anatomy: an ascender stem, an x-height stem, round elements, a top serif and a foot serif — so every character in the set stays consistent while still reading clearly as its own letter.
